What is Bio Identical Hormone Replacement?
Dr. Cantrell has over ten years of experience in the use of hormone replacement therapy. Our Professional Experience
I remember watching Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw, authors of Life Extension, featured on the Merv Grifiin Show in the 1970's. I felt sad knowing we would all eventually die, and, if we lived long enough, deteriorate before our own deteriorating eyes. What would help us live better and longer? Supplements? Hormones? Gene therapy? What would keep our 5 senses working and keep us working strong, hard and fast?
I can tell you that what is most useful health-wise is published in the scientific literature, embraced by alternative medicine, and ignored by traditional, allopathic medicine for about 20 years. A number of other supplements are cleverly marketed at the right time, make loads of profit for those companies, and may not be useful.
However, hormone supplementation makes sense.
The recognition that bioidentical hormones may be helpful compared to their artificial counterparts goes back at least 45 years. Just type "DES" into a search engine. It was prescribed to prevent miscarriages. It wasn't until female infants were born that people realized it caused genital abnormalities, including cancer. Now, my mother could have taken DES. But instead, she opted for a progesterone supplement.
Around the year 2000, one of my favorite labs associated with A4M changed its focus. I had been using the lab to balance hormones for some of my 75-year-old friends then. I approached one of the mainstream labs, asking about hormone testing. The rep asked me what type of medical practice I was interested in. I answered, "Anti-aging medicine." She stared for a minute, and then said, "I've never heard of that." So, at that time, I was treating elderly friends for free. The ones who followed my suggestions recovered much of the energy they had lost and started re-doing homes, refurbishing boats, etc.
Since I've had my eyes open to these possibilities since about age 9, some of it through my dad's practice, I am often aware of what has been tried, worked and forgotten, as well as what "new" information is factual and has been proven 50 years ago. is it REALLY Botox?
You'd think that after the problems Florida had a few years ago that this kind of thing would not still be happening, but it is. We've had patients describe treatments that didn't sound like the Botox reconstitution was done correctly and some with results that don't make sense from our experience with the product.
